Project Overview

Van Schaik’s Bio Gro is a leading organic resource recovery and recycling company in Victoria and South Australia. The company sought to expand their large-scale organic waste recycling facility in Newbridge to enhance sustainable waste management practices and contribute to a circular economy. They also required an Operating Licence for their existing waste transfer station in Dandenong South.

The Challenge

Bio Gro required an Environment Protection Authority (EPA) Development Licence, along with comprehensive technical assessments. The project involved navigating stringent regulatory approvals and ensuring compliance with environmental protection standards.

The Solution

SPM provided strategic guidance and technical expertise to support Bio Gro in obtaining the necessary approvals. Our role included:

Project Management – Coordinating all aspects of the EPA Development Licence application and Operating Licence application.

Technical Coordination – Managing the development of technical reports and environmental assessments.

Regulatory Engagement – Liaising with regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with environmental and planning requirements.

Strategic Advice – Offering ongoing strategic support for Bio Gro’s various sites to enhance operational sustainability.

The Outcomes

Successful Approval – Bio Gro secured the required EPA Development Licence, enabling the expansion of the organic waste recycling facility in Newbridge. The Operating Licence for the A13 activity in Dandenong South was one of the first to be issued by EPA.

Sustainable Impact – The project contributes to a circular economy by converting organic waste into valuable resources.

Regulatory Compliance – Ensured full compliance with environmental and planning laws, setting a benchmark for future waste recycling initiatives.

Ongoing Collaboration – SPM continues to provide strategic advice, supporting Bio Gro’s long-term sustainability and expansion efforts.
