Immix, a leading metal waste management and resource recovery company, sought to increase their capacity and ensure their Truganina and Bandiana facilities, maintained compliance with EPA Victoria regulations.

The Challenge

To secure EPA approvals for their operations, IMMIX needed to take a proactive approach to their environmental management and required a thorough understanding of the complexities of resource recovery operations. The submission of Environmental Impact Assessments and Environment and Human Health Risk Assessments were all critical elements that formed their Development Licence application to Environment Protection Authority (EPA).

The Solution

SPM worked extensively with IMMIX, providing strategic guidance and technical expertise in obtaining the necessary approvals. This included:

Detailed site assessments of the proposed site and evaluating potential environmental impacts on stormwater management, noise and fire management.
Defining waste acceptance criteria to ensure only suitable waste streams were received and processed at the facility, minimising potential environmental risks.
Conducting environmental compliance audits for both sites to identify any potential EPA compliance gaps and recommend corrective actions.
Providing Fire Management and Noise Response advice to support IMMIX and ensure compliance.
Providing Training and Awareness programs to IMMIX staff on environmental compliance and best practice waste management.
Resource Recovery Optimisation, SPM assisted in the refinement of processes to enable IMMIX to maximise the diversion of scrap metal from landfill and increase production of valuable recycled materials.
Obtaining a Development Licence Amendment that allowed for increased capacity at the Bandiana site.

The Outcomes

Regulatory approvals secured – IMMIX successfully met all environmental compliance requirements, enabling expansion of their operations.
