SPM is currently partnering with the City of Greater Geelong on a significant project to expand their organic waste processing capabilities. Our work will deliver the environment and planning approvals, including EPA development licences and planning permits necessary for the projects to succeed.

The expansion of two important waste facilities will allow City of Greater Geelong to receive and process Food Organics Garden Organics (FOGO) collected from the residents and businesses in the municipality. Upgrades and expansions will be completed by City of Greater Geelong, including:

  • Staceys Road, Anakie Compost Facility: SPM is providing crucial environmental and planning expertise to facilitate the expansion of this facility.  The approvals will enable the site to handle the increased volumes of organic waste generated by the FOGO program. SPM is assessing potential environmental impacts, optimising composting processes, and ensuring compliance with EPA regulations.
  • Point Henry Road Waste Transfer Station: SPM is assisting with the integration of FOGO waste and processing capabilities at the waste transfer station. Our team is working closely with Council, providing advice on the design of the waste handling systems.  We are working closely with technical specialists to minimise odour and other potential nuisances.  We are committed to ensuring a seamless approvals pathway.  This will allow the site to manage greater volumes of green organics and food organics.

SPM is contributing to a more sustainable waste management system for the region. The introduction of FOGO will significantly reduce landfill waste, and this will reduce greenhouse gas emissions.  City of Greater Geelong will create valuable compost for local use, fostering a more environmentally conscious community.
